🌟 Verb Tense: Past Simple
1. What is the Past Simple?
The Past Simple tense is used to talk about:
Completed actions in the past
Actions that happened at a specific time in the past
A series of actions in the past
2. How to Form the Past Simple
a) For Regular Verbs:
Verb + -ed
Example:
I played football yesterday.
She watched a movie last night.
b) For Irregular Verbs:
Use the second column of the verb list (irregular form)
Example:
He went to school.
We had dinner at 7 p.m.
3. Negative Form
Subject + did not (didn’t) + base verb
I did not (didn’t) like the movie.
She didn’t go to the party.
They did not finish the work.
🔹 Remember: use the base verb after “did not” (not past form).
4. Question Form
Did + subject + base verb?
Did you see the doctor?
Did he eat breakfast?
Did they come on time?
5. When to Use the Past Simple
Finished actions in the past
I visited my grandma last weekend.
They moved to Hanoi in 2020.
Actions with a specific past time
She called me yesterday.
We watched the show last night.
A list or sequence of past events
He woke up, brushed his teeth, and left the house.
6. Signal Words
Look for time expressions like:
yesterday, last week/month/year, in 2005, two days ago, this morning (if it’s past)
when, then, after that, before
7. Common Mistakes
Using past form after “did”
❌ She did went to the market.
✅ She did go to the market.
Forgetting to add -ed to regular verbs
❌ I watch a movie last night.
✅ I watched a movie last night.

1. Thì Quá Khứ Đơn Là Gì?
Thì Quá Khứ Đơn dùng để diễn tả:
Hành động đã hoàn thành trong quá khứ
Hành động xảy ra tại một thời điểm cụ thể trong quá khứ
Một chuỗi hành động nối tiếp nhau trong quá khứ
2. Cách Dùng Thì Quá Khứ Đơn
a) Với động từ có quy tắc:
Động từ + -ed
Ví dụ:
I played football yesterday. (Tôi đã chơi bóng đá hôm qua.)
She watched a movie last night. (Cô ấy đã xem phim tối qua.)
b) Với động từ bất quy tắc:
Dùng cột 2 trong bảng động từ
Ví dụ:
He went to school. (Anh ấy đã đến trường.)
We had dinner at 7 p.m. (Chúng tôi đã ăn tối lúc 7 giờ.)
3. Câu Phủ Định
Chủ ngữ + did not (didn’t) + động từ nguyên mẫu
I did not like the movie. (Tôi không thích bộ phim đó.)
She didn’t go to the party. (Cô ấy đã không đến bữa tiệc.)
They did not finish the work. (Họ đã không hoàn thành công việc.)
🔹 Lưu ý: Sau "did not" dùng động từ nguyên mẫu, không chia ở quá khứ.
